Dave Griggs autographed First Day Cover
(1939-1989) Authentic vintage first day cover hand signed by deceased NASA astronaut from STS-51d, Dave Griggs. Griggs was tragically killed when the vintage World War II training aircraft he was piloting crashed near Earle, Arkansas on June 17th, 1989. He is certainly one of the more uncommon autographs of the NASA Shuttle astronauts. Making this piece more unique, is the November 22, 1989 cancelation. At the time of his death, Mr. Griggs was in flight crew training as pilot for STS-33, a dedicated Department of Defense mission, scheduled for launch in November 1989. This cover was signed long before the mission launch date and subsequently still canceled on the launch date at the Kennedy Space Center. What a unique piece!
