(1902-1974) United States aviator known as 'Lucky Lindy' and 'The Lone Eagle' famous for piloting the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. This lot has a scarce vintage 1927 tapestry, measuring 51 inches long by 18 inches wide. It features woven portraits of world famous American and French aviators from that time period, including Charles Lindbergh, Richard Byrd, Clarence Chamberlin, aviatrix Ruth Elder and French aviators Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli. It also shows Lindbergh's plane 'The Spirit of St. Louis', the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. On the reverse it is stamped 'Made in France'. It is in very nice condition with fraying to the edges, which is typical.
