Benjamin Butler autographed Document
(1818-1893) American lawyer and politician who represented Massachusetts in the United States House of Representatives and later served as its governor. He one of the most controversial 'political generals' of the American Civil War. He was widely reviled for years after the war by Southern whites, who gave him the nickname 'Beast Butler'. This item is a signed 8x10.5 one page document, dated November 19, 1869. It is a special order by Butler for the National Asylum for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. It is in fine condition with a mild shade of toning and a bit of light soiling. It comes with an original CDV photo of Butler in uniform.
