(1826–1885) Major general during the American Civil War. He organized the famous Army of the Potomac and served briefly (November 1861 to March 1862) as General-in-chief of the Union Army. After his military service, he was an unsuccessful candidate for President of the United States in 1864 and was a Democratic Party politician, who served as the 24th Governor of New Jersey from 1878-1881. This item is a vintage original 8X11 Black & White steel engraving that has been professionally double matted to an overall size of 11x14. It was assembled using all acid free materials an is ready to be framed.
