(1794-1865) Statesman and orator. He was elected to the senate in 1853 but resigned under criticism for his compromising views on slavery. He also made the keynote speech during the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetary; the occasion that called forth Lincoln's Gettysburg address. This item is a 4.5x7 handwritten note, dated 1853. It has the usual mailing folds.
