Margaret Anderson autograph
(1886-1973) Author, Editor & Publisher. Co-editor and publisher of groundbreaking magazine 'The Little Review' (1914-29), one of the most famous of the American little magazines, she included articles on controversial subjects and championed such writers as Ezra Pound, Vachel Lindsay, William Butler Yeats, Ernest Hemingway and André Breton. From 1917 to 1920, The 'Little Review' published excerpts from James Joyce's then unpublished novel 'Ulysses' (1922). Because of their alleged obscenity, the U.S. Post Office burned four issues of the magazine containing the excerpts; in 1920, Anderson and her associate Jane Heap were convicted of publishing obscene matter and fined $100. After 1923, Anderson lived in France. This item is a vintage 1920’s handwritted fountainpen letter, 9 lines in fountain pen on a 4x6 Little Review note card, declining a story. One light centerfold, but and amazing piece!
