(1838-1922) Innovative Merchant & Political Figure. Entered the men's clothing business in 1861, expanding into other areas and pioneering the concept of the Department Store. His many important business innovations include the "money back guarantee" and the formal training of store clerks. Wannamaker was a master of publicity and advertising that he used to great success. He was long involved in politics, he served as Postmaster General from 1889-93. This item is an important hand written letter, measuring 5x7", dated 1920, to his son Rodman on the death of the senior Wannamaker's wife, Rodman's mother. Rodman later succeeded his father in business.
