(1902-2003) South Carolina Senator (1956-2003), Governor (1947-51) and the 1948 States Rights Presidential Candidate who received over 1,000,000 votes and 39 Electoral votes. In 1948 after the Democratic Party passed a Civil Rights plank Thurmond and others bolted the party and ran a racist “States Rights” campaign. He served in the Army Reserve from 1923-59 and, despite his age, he parachuted into France on D-Day. In 1954 he was elected to the Senate as a write-in candidate, resigned and was elected to the full term as a Democrat. The oldest person to serve in Congress (100) and one-time President Pro Tem of the Senate where he oversaw the Impeachment of Clinton. This item is an In Person Signed Program.
