(1860-1905) American Artist, Illustrator & Author. A prominent cartoonist and illustrator for many of the top magazines of the latter 19th century, including 'Life', as well as a popular poster artist. McVickar also illustrated an edition of Henry James’ 'Daisy Miller'. This item is a 1903 Original 4 ˝ x 5 ˝ Painting, a beautiful scene of Cyprus trees hung with Spanish moss at sunset, done in black ink and watercolor, highlighted by beautiful hues of red and orange. The work was done on a heavy stock page from his artist’s sketchbook, and apart from some minor detaching chips along the left-hand boarder is museum quality, showing no signs of being 99 years old! McVickar has signed it “Jakyl, Ga, March 24th, 1903, H.W. McVickar”. This comes from the collection of Charles Hamilton. McVickar’s original prints start at $500.00.
